Limoges is a city in the Limousin region of France. Located on the Vienne Valley, it is famous for its ceramics industry, the city's porcelain workshops employ more than 10,000 people. The shops there are like art museums, with a variety of porcelain dishes, dainty little boxes and statues, each one intractably and beautifully done, true works of art.Limoges is a very old city by the banks of the Vienne River. The Saint-Etienne bridge dates back to 1210 and is composed of 8 ribbed arches. Around the bridge area there are a wide variety of beautiful restaurants and cafés. Limoges has its own collection of half-timbered houses and narrow streets in the old part of the city. Some are rather colorful and have flowers draped on the exterior. The Cathedral Saint-Etienne is a masterpiece of gothic art and is one of the few gothic style monuments of Southern France.Limoges is a fascinating historic city of ancient buildings, quaint old streets, museums, gardens and galleries.
